Dutch law on EU-Ukraine Association Agreement's ratification to take force on June 15

Dutch law on EU-Ukraine Association Agreement's ratification to take force on June 15The instrument of ratification of the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement signed by the King of the Netherlands was published on the Dutch government's website on Wednesday and takes effect on June 15.

The document declares the entry into force of the law dated July 8, 2015, which approved the Association Agreement between the European Union and the European Atomic Energy Community, of the one part, and Ukraine, of the other part, concluded in Brussels on June 27, 2014.

The Dutch parliament's lower chamber, the House of Representatives, formally confirmed the ratification of the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement on February 23.

The upper chamber, the Senate, put the ratification to a vote on May 30.

The ratification process is deemed completed after the document is signed, published in the Official Journal of the Netherlands, and handed over to the archives of the General Secretariat.

Once that is done, the European Union needs to finalize the approval process and to submit the instruments of ratification to the archives. The agreement will take effect on the first day of the second month after the last instrument of ratification or the approval document is submitted to the archives.

The Netherlands was the last country of the European Union, which ratified the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement.

Head of the EU Delegation to Ukraine Hugues Mingarelli said earlier he expected the agreement to take full effect on September 1, 2017.
