Tennis: Ukrainian Lesia Tsurenko reaches US Open quarterfinal

Ukrainian tennis player Lesia Tsurenko won in the match against her opponent from the Czech Republic Marketa Vondrousova and reached the US Open quarterfinal. This was reported on
“Ukrainian Lesia Tsurenko overcame an injury -- and one to her opponent -- as well as a substantial case of nerves to stage an improbable comeback over Czech teenager Marketa Vondrousova, 6-7, 7-5, 6-2, in the Round of 16 Monday to get to her first US Open quarterfinal,” the message says.
Tsurenko was able to play through the pain and eventually won the match in 2 hours, 32 minutes.
The Ukrainian got some help from her opponent. She hit only 17 winners but the 19-year-old Vondrousova made 90 errors — 73 unforced.
And as Tsurenko struggled physically -- she later said the heat was the primary factor -- and so did Vondrousova; at times it seemed that whoever was left standing would be the one to take the win, as both visibly limped between points. In the end, it was the veteran who was able to put her foot on the gas pedal at the right moments to rattle her younger opponent and take the three-set victory. She'll face No. 20 Naomi Osaka in the quarterfinals.
As it was reported earlier, Lesia Tsurenko made it to the Round of Last 16
by beating the famous Danish Caroline Wozniacki; on Monday evening, she will stand against Czech Marketa Vondrusova.
Ukraine's No.1 in tennis Elina Svitolina has been eliminated from the US Open. She lost the fixture in the Round of Last 16, where her opponent was Anastasia Sevastova.
Svitolina lost in two of the three sets (6:3, 1:6, 6:0). She could not even play a single break point, although after the second set it seemed she came back and could compete for the quarterfinals.
