Two Ukrainian films nominated for “European Oscar”

Two films shot along with Ukraine put on the long-list of the European Film Academy. “Donbass” by Serhy Loznytsia (co-production with Germany, France and the Netherlands) and “Woman at war” by Benedikt Erlingsson (co-production with Iceland and France) entered the list as

“Donbas” tells about the life at the occupied territories in the east of Ukraine. “Woman at War” is dedicated to the citizen of Iceland who fights for the ecology and adopts a girl from Ukraine.

Both films were shown at the Cannes Film Festival
for the first time. “Donbass” was awarded for the best directing and “Woman at War” won the award of the consortium of authors and composers in the section “Critics Week”.

Totally, 49 pictures were chosen for the long-list of the European Film Academy. The nominees for the award of the academy will be chosen on November 10 at the film festival in Seville, Italy.

“Cold war” by Pawel Pawlikowski, “Paddington-2” by Paul King, “The House That Jack Built” by Lars von Trier, “Girl” by Lukas Dhont and “Mug” by Malgorzata Szumowska are also in the list.
Ukrainian film won the award of the European Film Academy only once. It was the picture “Tribe” directed by Myroslav Slaboshpytsky. In 2014 it got the award “Discovery of the year”.

The ceremony of the awarding will take place on December 15 in Seville.
As we reported Ukrainian movie “Woman at war” directed by Icelandic movie maker Benedikt Erlingsson is nominated for an award of the European Parliament.
