SBU establishes involvement of Russian career military in attack at Mariupol in 2015

The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has established the involvement of the career military of Russia in the tragic shelling of Mariupol in 2015 that caused the death of 29 people and wounding of 92 people. Vasyl Hrytsak, the SBU Head claimed this as 112 Ukraine broadcasted.
‘Particularly, this terrorist action took place with the support of two regular reactive divisions of Russia’s Armed Forces. These people are involved in this crime. Major General Stepan Yaroshchuk, the Command of missile forces and artillery of South Military District of Russia managed the operation from Russia’, Hrytsak claimed.

Russia’s Armed Forces Colonel Oleksandr Tsaplyuk with a code name ‘Horets’ managed the shelling in temporarily occupied Donetsk. Lieutenant-Colonel Maksym Vlasov with a code name ‘Yuhra’ coordinated the actions of the Russian radioactive divisions.
The SBU prosecutors established the direct participation of 200th Pechengsky Motorized Mobile Brigate and Second Guards Motor Rifle "Tamanskaya" Division in the shelling.
Two divisions of the BM-21 Grad multiple rocket launchers of Armed Forces of Russia made more than 120 shots at the peaceful city with S-21OF high explosive shells.

According to Hrytsak, 11 people were served charge papers, 7 of them are Russia’s soldiers and four are citizens of Ukraine, militants of occupied Donbas. All of them are on the wanted list. The proper procedures take place.
‘We will definitely put them on the international wanted list, including Interpol’, he said.
According to him, the order on the shelling was made by the senior management of Russia.
‘The decision on the adoption or provision of the team for the attack at the peaceful Ukrainian city is not made even by Major General. We are sure that such decision could be made by top military and political authority of Russia’, Hrytsak claimed.

According to Hrytsak, Russia’s authority attempted to hide the evidence of Mariupol shelling.
He also claimed that the evidence base with the video-recording will be passed to the International Court of Justice.
 Let us remind, on January 24, 2015 the Skhidnyi district of the city of Mariupol was subjected to massive bombardment. According to the police information, in result of shelling 31 people were killed: 17 women, 12 men and 2 children. 117 people received injuries of varying severity: 56 women, 49 men and 12 children. And now some of the victims are being treated for post-effects of the shelling. More than 80 objects were damaged by shelling.

On June 22, 2016 the court has sentenced a former police officer who zeroed Grad weapons of terrorists during the shelling of the Skhidnyi district of Mariupol.
According to investigators, 41-year-old Mariupol citizen, who previously worked in law enforcement, began collaborating with terrorists. He shared with the militants secret information about the locations of members of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and other military formations, which take part in the ATO. In the future, this information was used by terrorists for the shelling.
