Poroshenko signs law on ratification of the protocols of Convention on Human Rights

President] signed a law ‘On ratification of the Protocols #15 and #16 of the Convention on Human Rights and fundamental liberties’ as the press service of the president reported.
The ratification of these protocols confirms the adherence of Ukraine to the ideas and goals of the Convention – respect and defense of the rights and fundamental rights of the human in Europe and confirms the intention of Ukraine to actively participate in the reforming of the European Court of Human Rights to further the implementation of the Convention in the national legislation system.

The article 10 of the protocol #16 determines that the superior court that can appeal to the ECHR is the Supreme Court of Ukraine.
Both protocols will come into force on the first day of the month that will become in three months after the agreement of all sides of the Convention to consider the protocols as the obligatory. Article 4 of the protocol #15 will come into force in six months.

It is noted that the protocol #15 is signed by 45 states as at September 6. 35 of them agreed that the protocol is obligatory for them. The protocol #16 is signed by 18 countries and eight of them agreed that the protocol is obligatory for them.

The draft law #0159 on the ratification of the Protocols #15 and 16 of the Convention on human rights and fundamental liberties was adopted by the Verkhovna Rada on October 5.
