Lawyers of Ukrainian POWs to turn to ECHR

The lawyers of the Ukrainian sailors, whose arrest was prolonged for three more months, will file appeals and address the European Court of Human Rights, as the lawyer Ilya Novikov said on air of 112 Ukraine.
The lawyers have to file appeals against all the court’s decisions. Such measures are necessary to address the European Court later.

“We have a compulsory program, we must file appeals against all the decisions. Otherwise, we will lose a chance to turn to the European Court,” Novikov said.
The lawyers need to get materials, which confirm the fact of Russia’s aggression. The lawyer separated the materials about interception of negotiations between the Russian servicemen and the information about the way the movement of the Ukrainian ships.

Besides, the lawyer said that the issue of the Ukrainian POWs could be solved in a political way. As earlier they were told that this situation would not change till the presidential elections in Ukraine.
“This problem might be solved in a political way only. We were already told that nothing would happen till the elections in Ukraine, so we expect some results will April or May, yet we have to use any chance to seek for support of the other countries,” he noted.

As it was reported, Lefortovo court extended arrest of the last four Ukrainian sailors for three months. Earlier, detention was prolonged for the rest POWs captured near Kerch Strait in November 2018.
On November 25, the coast guard ships of the Russian Navy attacked the ships of the Ukrainian Navy, which have been carrying out a scheduled transition from Odesa port to Mariupol port in the Sea of Azov. 

21 Ukrainian sailors have been delivered to Lefortovo remand center in Moscow, three others are in the hospital of Matrosskaya Tishina prison, also in the Russian capital. On December 3, the Russian prosecutors officially accused Ukrainian sailors with the 'illegal crossing of the state border' during the attack in the Kerch Strait.
