New station on Tokyo Metro line to be called Toranomon Hills

A Tokyo subway operator said Wednesday that a station under construction on its Hibiya Line has been named Toranomon Hills after a nearby landmark skyscraper.
The new station, located between Kasumigaseki and Kamiyacho stations, will open in 2020 ahead of the Olympics and Paralympics in the Japanese capital. Work on the station complex is scheduled to be fully completed in fiscal 2022, according to Tokyo Metro Co.
The station is close to Toranomon Hills Mori Tower, a 52-story building that opened in 2014. Multiple high-rise buildings are under construction in the area, which is being redeveloped under the name Toranomon Hills.
The subway operator believes it will be easy for passengers to remember the name of the new station in association with the redevelopment of the area.
According to an internet survey targeting some 2,000 people conducted in September, about half of the respondents picked the name Toranomon Hills.
Passengers will be able to transfer to another subway line at the new station, which is about a seven-minute walk from Toranomon Station on the Ginza Line.
