Kyiv city council agreed to name Kyiv International Airport (a.k.a. Zhuliany Airport) after Ihor Sikorsky, the prominent aircraft constructor of Ukrainian origin. This was mentioned in the message at the city council's website.
According to Oleksiy Reznikov, the deputy head of the Kyiv city council, the procedure is now complete, since all the necessary steps were made successfully.
'The staff of the airport, the parliamentary commission for rebranding and three committees of the Kyiv city council approved this decision', he said.
Zhuliany is one of the two passenger airports of the Ukrainian capital Kyiv, the other being Boryspil International Airport. It is owned by the municipality of Kyiv and located in the Zhuliany neighborhood, about 7 kilometers (4.3 mi) southwest of the city center. Aside from facilitating regular passenger flights, Kyiv International Airport is also the main business aviation airport in Ukraine, and one of the busiest business aviation hubs in Europe.
