British educational journal Times Higher Education has published rating of the world universities University Rankings 2014-2015, as of which American and British universities hold leading positions.Rating of the world University 2014-2015 is publishedThis is a global research and accompanying it rating of the best educational institutions worldwide. It is based on the method of the British edition THE supported by the information group Thomson Reuters. It is considered to be the most powerful global rating of the universities. The rating was created in 2010 by the Times Higher Education jointly with Thomson Reuters in the frame of the global project Global Institutional Profiles Project and replaced popular rating World University Rankings that has been published since 2004 by the Times Higher Education jointly with a company Quacquarelli Symonds. Level of achievements of universities is assessed on the grounds of the results of combined statistic analysis of their activities, audited data and the results of annual global expert inquiry of representatives of the international academic community and employers expressing their opinions over universities. Inquiries cover ten thousands scientists from the most countries of the world. Selection criteria for experts for inquiry is a scientific-metric analysis of productivity and Science Citation Index as well as academic and scientific activity in the higher educational institution for more than 16 years, not less than 50 published scientific papers and other criteria. During the inquiries experts select among six thousands institutions that are according to their opinion the best and the strongest universities for continuation of education on Master and PhD level.Analysis of activities of higher educational institutions is comprised of thirteen indicators. The main evaluating criteria are international students and professors mobility, quantity of international scholarship programs, level of scientific research, innovations investments, Citation Index of scientific articles, level of educational services, etc. All the grades are rationed and presented in the 100 points scale. Below there are quantity and quality indicators based on which universities’ assessment is made.Based on annual research results, the rating of 400 best world universities is comprised. Universities dealing with specific areas of research and those having less than 200 scientific publications per year are not considered in the rating. Authors of the project emphasize that the research team of the Times Higher Education work largely objectively, all the data and methods are accessible for the external auditing.
