ASF outbreak recorded in Ukrainian Odessa and Khmelnytsky regions

ASF outbreak recorded in Ukrainian Odessa and Khmelnytsky regions African swine fever have previously covered four regions of Ukraine.

Two pigs infected with African swine fever have been killed from as a result of the outbreak in the Khmelnytsky and Odessa regions, according to the press centre of the State Service of Ukraine on issues of food safety and consumer protection.

According to information provided, a four-month pig died in the village of Kalchev, Bolgrad district of Odessa region.

"African swine fever (ASF) has been confirmed in the study of biomaterial samples selected at the State Research Institute for the laboratory diagnosis and veterinary-sanitary examination (Kyiv) 18.10.2016," said in a statement.

According to preliminary information, in total there are about 300 pigs at the farms in the village.

ASF has also been recorded in the village of Letichev in Khmelnytsky region, which a pig have been killed.

According to preliminary information the household includes 12 pigs, and total of 120 pigs recorded in the village.

Earlier ASF issue was to be discussed at Ukrainian National Security and Defense Council meeting.
