In Ukraine, only 15% of critically ill patients receive appropriate careUkrainian Ministry of Health issued a public discussion on the strategy of palliative care development in Ukraine

The Ministry of Health will create specialized centers for Palliative Care Network (maintaining the quality of life of patients with incurable, life-threatening and difficult diseases occurring).

This initiative is incorporated in the draft Strategy for the Development of Palliative Care in Ukraine for the period until 2027 and taken out by the Office for public discussion.

According to the document, the need for palliative care in Ukraine is satisfied only by 15%.

"The number of people in need of palliative care is more than 600 thousand patients a year, members of their families also require maintenance and support other words, more than 1.5 million people annually", - The document says.

Currently, only two palliative care center created in Ukraine, seven hospices and more than 60 independent departments of palliative care, which together provide access to 1,500 inpatient palliative care beds at the needs of 3,500 seats recommended by the World Health Organization.

In addition, in Ukraine there are only seven visiting palliative care services at home for adults and children.

The authors of the strategy emphasize that each year in Ukraine kills about 700 thousand people, including more than 100 thousand - by oncological diseases.

The document suggests that the cost of the development of palliative care will be allocated from the budget.

The strategy also provides training for stationary and field of palliative care services. Implementation of the system of motivation and incentives to attract staff who provide palliative care.
