Five years passed since one of the most tragic events in the early stage of Donbas conflict. Ukraine's Air Force, friends and relatives honor the memory of Lieutenant Colonel Kostyantyn Mohylko and his crew.
On June 6, 2014, Mohylko and another seven servicemen of Ukraine's Air Force were on board of Antonov An-30, the surveillance aircraft; they performed an observation flight, taking photos of the area over the-then occupied Slovyansk, Donetsk region. At 5.04 p.m., an anti-aircraft missile hit the plane, as Russian militants opened fire from the SAM system. The explosion destroyed one of the engines, resulting in a big fire.

The flames engulfed a wing, the plane started to lose altitude; it was falling on the city's living quarters. Mohylko, the crew commander, ordered his men to jump. Only three obeyed; the rest remained with their chief. Lieutenant Colonel managed to take the plane outside the city before it hit the ground and caused any civilian casualties in the area. An-30 crashed 30 kilometers to the north of Slovyansk, near Pryshyb village. No one survived.
The servicemen were solemnly buried and awarded posthumously. Mohylko, whose remains are resting in his home city of Vinnytsia, was promoted to teh rank of Colonel, posthumously.
