50,749 people, including 24,905 adults and 26,844 children, sickened with measles in Ukraine in 2019 as the Healthcare Ministry reported.
17 people died from complications of this disease.
“Totally, since the beginning of the outbreak, since summer 2017, 100,000 people got sick with measles and 38 of them died,” the message said.
The ministry added that 1,483 people, including 678 adults and 807 children, got sick during the 21
st week of 2019.
“There is no cure for measles, the only method of protection is the vaccination and Ukraine has all the necessary vaccines,” the ministry emphasized.
Earlier, the UN reported that 70 percent of all measles cases in Europe are observed in Ukraine.
Besides, all adults will get the vaccines against measles for free.
Acting Healthcare Minister Ulyana Suprun reported that another 780,000 vaccines against measles will be bought by Ukraine in 2019.
Earlier, a two-year-old boy deceased because of the complications caused by measles. The deadly case was observed in Lviv, western Ukraine. Moreover, a nine-year-old girl died from measles in Rivne region.
