Irakli Kobakhidze, the Head of the Georgian Parliament, filed a lawsuit after mass protests in Tbilisi caused by the fact that a Russian MP took the place of the Parliament’s Spokesperson at the meeting of the Orthodox Assembly. Such decision was made at the session of the political council of the ruling party “Georgian dream”, as Rustavi-2 reported.
It should be noted that during the protests on the night of June 20, the Georgian opposition and protesters were demanding not only Kobakhidze’s resignation, but also the resignation of Internal Minister Giorgi Gakharia, Prime Minister Mamuka Bakhatadze, and appointment of snap elections.

Media also reports that the parliamentary majority will support the candidate of its leader Archila Talakvadze on the post of the Chairman of the Parliament, as one of the leaders of the ruling party “Georgian dream” Mamuka Mdinaradze told the journalists.
“After the resignation from the post of the Chairman of the Parliament Irakli Kobakhidze, we do not consider another candidate on this post,” Mdinaradze said.
