The UK would send 100 Royal Navy special forces soldiers
to the Persian Gulf to strengthen the protection of its ships in the region after the attacks on two oil tankers in the Gulf of Oman were carried out. Such information was reported by The Sunday Times.

Marines from the 42nd Airborne unit, based near Plymouth, would form a unit of rapid reaction forces at the British naval base in Bahrain, which has been operating since 2018.

Their main task will be to protect British warships and trade ships from anti-ship missiles, mines, and attacks from small vessels.
It is planned that the special forces will patrol the sea in the Persian Gulf.

The government emergency committee intends to discuss a plan to send marines to the Middle East on June 16.

According to the newspaper, the British authorities did not officially announce the mission, since the country's defense ministry does not want the situation in the region to escalate.

On Friday, British Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt blamed Iran and its Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps on attacks on two ships in the Gulf of Oman on 13 June.
