August 13, the Metropolitian Onufry elected as the Head of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church

The Bishops’ Council of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (Moscow Patriarchate) in Kiev elected Metropolitan Onufry as Primate of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.

Onufry was Metropolitan of Chernovtsy and Bukovina, Locum Tenens of the Metropolitan See of Kiev. 48 bishops of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC) voted in his favor, the pres service of the UOC (MP) informs.

The secret ballot was held at the Kiev Monastery of the Caves. Enthronement took place on August 17 in Kiev.

The former Primate of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church Metropolitan Vladimir died on July 5, 2014. He ruled the church since 1992.
