European Commission suggests to held the three-partite meeting on gas issue on 20 March

European Commission suggested holding the three-partite meeting of the Ministers of the EU, Ukraine and Russian Federation on gas issue on 20th March. A diplomatic source in Brussels informed it to the news agency TASS. ‘European Commission sent invitation to the Ministers of energy of Ukraine and Russian Federation Vladimir Demchyshin and Aleksandr Novak to held negotiations on 20th March in Brussels on prices and supply conditions of gas to Ukraine and its transit to the EU in the spring-summer time’, as he informed. It should be reminded that the NAK ‘Naftogaz of Ukraine’(hereafter, the NAK stands for the National joint stock company) paid to Russian gas monopolist ‘Gazprom’ 15 million USD more, having provided gas till the middle of March. As it was stated earlier by the ‘Naftogaz’, prepaid payment for March supply of Russian gas will depend on weather conditions. In general, Ukraine plans to diminish part of Russian gas in the energy balance of the country. As informed earlier, Ukraine did not receive Russian gas since the middle of June 2014 following the indefiniteness of the supply conditions, fuel price and the mechanism of the fuel debts payments. As a result of the agreements reached in October and according to the Protocol signed in Brussels, Ukraine since 09 December continued import of the natural gas from Russia for 378 USD per thousand cubic meters until the end of 2014 on prepaid basis. Reached agreements are temporary and will be effective till 31 March 2015.Vice-president of the European Commission on Energy Union Marosh Shevchovich reassured that after the end of term of ‘winter package’ the European Commission jointly with Russian ‘Gazprom’ and the NAK ‘Naftogaz of Ukraine’ will look for compromises.
