MSNBC's most popular primetime host has reached a new, multi-year deal with the network.




Rachel Maddow had been considering other options in what would have been a blow to the network.




The news appears to be NBCUniversal News Group Chairman Cesar Conde's first big talent contract renewal at MSNBC.

MSNBC's most popular primetime anchor is staying with the company.After months of talks with a host of other networks, Rachel Maddow has opted to stay put thanks to a new multi-year contract that will include developing new projects with MSNBC and parent company NBCUniversal, according to a person with direct knowledge of the negotiations.Maddow hired super-agent Ari Emanuel to negotiate a new deal after months of considering options from would-be suitors, in what would have been a blow to the network. The Daily Beast had reported she was seriously considering leaving the network when her current contract ended early next year. Maddow was reported to be mulling starting her own media ventures.The new deal will give Maddow the opportunity to develop a raft of multi-media projects, including books and movies of her choice, according to a second person familiar with the contract.
