State Aviation Service: no bans on flights to Sharm el-Sheikh

State Aviation Service: no bans on flights to Sharm el-SheikhThe flights over the Sinai Peninsula have not been banned and are carried out as usual in all directions.

The State Aviation Service explained that there were recommendations to Ukrainian airlines to suspend planning flights over the peninsula only over one navigational point.

Inspector for Aviation Supervision over Flight Operations at the State Aviation Service, Oleksandr Kariakin told Ukrinform, when commenting on the information published earlier in the Ukrainian mass media that Ukrainian airlines were banned from flying over the Sinai Peninsula.

“There were some misunderstandings. There was nothing about the ban on flights, the flights are carried out as usual to Sharm el-Sheikh, Taba, Hurghada and other resorts,” he said.

According to Kariak, the ban concerns only the flights using aeronautical point PASOS (Cyprus FIR) over the Mediterranean territorial waters and it doesn’t prevent aircrafts form reaching destination places by avoiding this point.

“This section of air route is just temporary not available for planning flights,” he said.

The State Aviation Service assured this ban will not influence passengers.

“Only some procedures for pilots, traffic controller have changed, and for a passenger – it’s only two-three additional minutes of flight,” Kariakin stressed.
