Deliveries from Slovakia, Poland and Hungary will satisfy up to 60% of Ukraine’s gas demand

Ukraine can replace 60% of Russian gas with reverse flow gas from Europe, said Prime-Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatseniuk during the government session on Wednesday. He said Ukraine is going to receive 10bln cubic meters of gas from Slovakia and 5 bln from Poland and Hungary. Yatseniuk added that Ukraine is ready to buy gas on spot market. “In general, depending on season, we need to buy 25bln cubic meters of gas from Russia. Within four months we started deliveries of Russian and non-Russian gas [with reverse flow] from European Union. The total amount of gas from Europe is 15bln cubic meters. Yesterday, we opened 10 bln of gas with Minister Prodan and the President of NAK “Naftogaz” Kobolev, and the Prime-Minister of Slovakia. The event reminded me of Miller [Alexey Miller, Gazprom Chairman] and Putin who were closing off the gas pipe in 2009, and we have opened it up with Europe yesterday. The delivery capacity is 10bln cubic meters of gas and 5bln that we will be getting from other sources from Poland and Hungary”, said Yatseniuk.Yatseniuk says, Ukraine offered “not “Ukrainain” but entirely economic and European approach”: “In low season (in summer) we pay 300 dollars, it is a market price. In high season, in winter, we pay 385, the average price becomes 340. If this approach will not satisfy our partners, we can offer another variant: there is spot market in Europe, by deducting transit, we are ready to take the spot market”, he said.As we informed earlier, according to “Naftogaz”, Ukraine, since Russia’s termination of gas supplies to Ukrainian consumers in mid-June, until the delivery of arbitration decision, can only pay gas bills according to the temporary price that equals the prices on European hubs net of transport costs.
