Prisoners have taken over a penal colony in the city of Kirovohrad, reports Serhiy Starenkyi, the ex-head of the Penitentiary Service of Ukraine. He states the staff of the prison has been unable to enter the building for three days, as the inmates are reported to attempt attacking them.
Starenkyi adds the prisoners of two other facilities in Kirovohrad region are ready to back the rioters. He claims the situation is out of control and soon the penal colony staff will be needing assistance from police and National Guard.
However, Ukraine's Penitentiary Service denies information about the prison riot.
