Chernihiv region patient diagnosed with relapse of tropical malaria

A Chernihiv region resident was hospitalized with the diagnosis of relapse of tropical malaria, the press service of the state epidemics agency in the Chernihiv region reports.

"A resident of Pobornytsia village reported fever of up to 41 C, sweating and general weakness and asked for medical assistance at an appointment with an infectious diseases doctor at Chernihiv city hospital №2. The patient was hospitalized there with diagnosis of a relapse of tropical malaria. Laboratory tests detected tropical malaria pathogens with high content of parasitemia in his blood sample," a statement said.

Epidemics investigation found out that the patient had worked as contruction worker in Guinea from early October 2014 until end of August 2015. While living there the patient hadn't taken any antimalarial drugs for prophylaxis of the disease. He contracted tropical malaria and received treatment in Guinea.
