Kyiv's Sustainable Energy Action Plan to be discussed in Brussels in early 2016

Kyiv's Sustainable Energy Action Plan to be discussed in Brussels in early 2016Kyiv City State Administration will present the Ukrainian capital's Sustainable Energy Action Plan in Brussels, Belgium, early next year, according to deputy head of Kyiv City State Administration Petro Panteleyev.

"We have developed two strategic documents – a plan for sustainable energy development, which will be demonstrated in Brussels a month or two after [being drawn up], I think, along with a comprehensive program for the development of housing, utilities and energy efficiency," he said at a workshop on the development of housing and utilities in Kyiv on Tuesday.

The top priorities for the Kyiv authorities are energy efficiency and transforming housing and utilities services sector into customer-oriented municipal services, Panteleyev said.

Separate projects are already being implemented by Kyiv's authorities alongside the development of the plan for sustainable energy development: over 4,000 heating meters will be installed in the Ukrainian capital by the end of the year. An improvement in the heating insulation of public buildings and decentralization of the hot water and heating supply are also under way.

Director of Kyiv City State Administration's housing and utilities infrastructure department Dmytro Novytsky, who was also present at the workshop, said that the draft plan had not been approved in full but its major provisions have already been taken into account in the comprehensive program for the development of housing, utilities, and energy efficiency.

The program consists of two main sections aimed at the technical re-equipment and energy efficiency of housing and utilities, as well as organizational support for the development of this sector.

"We are simply doomed to make big steps for the modernization and reform of public utilities next year. With this program, we are laying the foundation that will be the focus of our actions in future," Novytsky said.
