EU-Ukraine summit starts in Kyiv on July 13The 19th summit will be presided by Ukraine’s President Petro Poroshenko, while the European delegation is headed by Donald Tusk, the President of the European Council, and Jean Claude Juncker, the President of the European Commission. Represantitives of Ukrainian government and the European Commission will also be present.

This summit is to be the first one when the Association Agreement is fully ratified and Ukraine has visa-free travel regime with the EU. These two were the main issues of the last few years.

At 10:40 an official ceremony of meeting the EU delegation will take place on Baknova. At 11:00 the plenary session of the summit is to begin, where Ukrainian and EU leaders will discuss the implementation of EU-Ukraine Association Agreement, the reforms in Ukraine, increasing the EU support, and the situation in temprorarily occupied Donbas and Crimea.

Moreover, the summit participants will discuss key regional and global issues. Ivanna Klympush-Tsintsadze, Vice-Prime Minister on European integration, said that Energy and Transport would be payed a lot of attention.

“Of course, politics, legislation, freedom and security are important topics. Fighting corruption is undoubtedly another one. All in all, future reforms in Ukraine are to be discussed,” she said.

The plenary session will last 1,5 hours, and then Poroshenko, Tusk and Juncker will hold a press conference, where they will give a joint statement on the results of the session.

EU-Ukraine summit takes place every year since 1997. Most of the events were organized in Kyiv or Brussels, but Paris, Yalta, Vienna, Copenhagen, Helsinki and the Hague also hosted the event.
