"Anna Yaroslavna" raises the sail!

"Anna Yaroslavna" raises the sail!A working meeting of the initiative group has been held in the premises of Odessa National Maritime Academy. The event was united and marked by a common idea: to help a landmark project, important both for Odessa and Ukraine. It concerns the participation of the eleventh century replica boat "Anne of Kiev" in the French festival "Brest Salutes 2016".

Following the meeting, it was decided to intensify the search of sponsors to finance the project (there is a need to collect 28 thousand euros), as well as to send some of the best students of the Odessa National Maritime Academy to the festival, to France, in July 2016. Information sponsor of the project is represented by the Odessa TV channel "Grad" and the International News Agency "Vector News" while the part of the project financing will be assumed by law firm "ACTIO".

"The management of our company decided to finance the participation of two cadets of the Maritime Academy in the International Festival in France. May be, other activities related to the reconstruction of the ancient boat, will be held with the participation of law firm "ACTIO"," said the partner of the law firm "ACTIO" Boris Voloshenkov.

In its turn, the Rector of the National University "Odessa Maritime Academy" Mikhail Miyusov is sure that "such events bring together the sailors and the lovers of the Navy from around the world, and so we hope that the competition, held at the Academy, will allow to select those young people who are really interested in maritime history and will be able to adequately represent our University and Ukraine at this international event."

Let us recall, that a few years ago, in Odessa, with the efforts of the fans’ team, a replica of historical seafaring Slavic boat of the XIth century was built, which was named after the daughter of Prince Yaroslav the Wise of Kiev, Anna Yaroslavna. Later Princess Anna became the Queen of France. This year Odessa reenactors’ team was officially invited to represent Ukraine in the largest international festival of ancient sailing ships "Brest Salutes" in the French city of Brest from the 13th to the 19th of July. The festival takes place every 4 years for more than 20 years. It is planned that it will be attended by about 2 thousand ships from around the world.

"From the today’s perspective, it is not even a historical project, but the project of cultural diplomacy that we would like to carry on a completely different level ... We're going to the festival as common people in order to talk about our city, about our country, about good things which we have and about how our country has changed," emphasizes the captain of the boat "Anne of Kiev" Sergei Riabokon.

The whole campaign is designed for 5 years. In the future, the team of Odessa reenactors plans to pass waterways through the territory of France, Germany, the Netherlands, Austria, Slovenia, Romania and Bulgaria, participating in the sea and river festivals and presenting Ukraine as a part of the European community. Thus, our country has a good chance to establish itself as a European power with the most ancient traditions of seafaring.
