A plea for mercy from Oleg Sentsov’s mother was already submitted to the specialized commission. This was reported by Ukrainian Ombudsman Lyudmyla Denisova upon the conversation with her Russian counterpart Tatyana Moskalkova. One of the discussion topics was the transfer of Ukrainian political prisoner Oleg Sentsov for treatment in Moscow.
According to Denisova, they discussed an exchange of Sentsov and Russian Aleksey Sedikov, however the talks did not have success as Moskalkova claimed that Russia considered Ukrainian film director its citizen, thus exchange is irrelevant.
“Meanwhile, the situation requires fast reaction. Oleg has refused from hospitalization in Labytnangi and a local hospital does not have specialists capable of pulling him out of hunger process. The withdrawal from hunger is usually event more dangerous than the hunger itself and any mistake could be fatal. There are such specialists in Moscow Nikolaev Institute and Kyiv Gerontology Research Institute. That is why, I asked Tatyana Moskalkova to organize Oleg’s transfer to Moscow Institute or a hospital with specialists of endogenous nourishment. I told her that he would not be able to get there by train and that air ambulance was needed. A life has to be saved,” Ukrainian Ombudsman said.

Denisova added that she had asked Moskalkova to accelerate the consideration of Sentsov’s pardon, taking in account his critical condition.
As it was reported earlier, Ukrainian movie director Oleg Sentsov and Crimean activist Oleksandr Kolchenko were detained by the Russian FSB in the annexed Crimea. Both were taken to Russia. Sentsov was charged with preparing a terrorist act in Crimea and sentenced to 20 years in the high-security penal colony. Kolchenko was sentenced to ten-years-long imprisonment.
Oleg Sentsov has announced a hunger strike on May 14. This way, he demands that all Ukrainians detained in Russia and annexed Crimea be released. Sentsov said he was ready to die if the requirements were not fulfilled.
Dmytro Dinze, the lawyer of the Ukrainian political prisoner, passed a plea for mercy from Oleg’s mother to the commission on pardon on the territory of Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous District. According to her, at first, the plea for pardon was sent to the Russian President’s Administration, but no response followed, though they promised to consider it.
Earlier, Natalia Kaplan, sister of Oleg Sentsov stated that she received a letter from the Ukrainian. Sentsov said he is not getting up from a bed and the end is near.
