Yuriy Vitrenko, Ukraine’s Charge d'Affaires to UN, during the events dedicated to the 10th anniversary of the beginning of the Russian-Georgian war, urged to enhance pressure on Russia for its aggression, as Ukrinform reports.
“The international community should combine the diplomatic tools with more powerful targeted sanctions and with the isolation of the Russian political leaders and oligarchs. After all, we all know that the Russian regime understands only the language of force,” the Ukrainian representative stated.
He has also called UN for being more active when solving the conflicts, initiated by Russia in Georgia, Ukraine, Moldova and other places.

“Despite the relevant schemes existing, such as the Geneva International Discussions, the Normandy format or the Trilateral Contact Group, UN Security Council and the General Assembly should show a much stronger position concerning the conflicts and enhance pressure on Russia,” the Ukrainian diplomat stressed.
According to him, a consistent and consolidated policy of the international community concerning the Russian occupation and annexation should remain the most important thing to provide a peaceful solution of the conflicts in the region and in the world.

“De-occupation of the Georgian and Ukrainian territories, cancellation of the recognition of the so-called independence of Abkhazia and South Ossetia and fulfilment of all other obligations under agreements in force,” Vitrenko noted.
Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry urged Russia to withdraw troops from the occupied territories in Georgia and take measured to demilitarize and de-occupy these territories on August 6.
