Sergei Loznitsa is one of the most prominent Ukrainian film directors in the world. His movie My Joy became the first Ukrainian film presented at the official Cannes Festival competition in 2010. Besides, other two Loznitsa’s films were presented within the festival’s program – Maidan in 2014 and A Gentle Creature in 2017.
Donbass will be screened in Ukraine this year.
Earlier, another Ukrainian movie included in the official program of the festival Woman at War got the prize for best music.

Besides, the world premiere of a Ukrainian movie Vulkan (volcano, - ed.) took place in Karlovy Vary at the 53rd International Film Festival. Roman Bondarchuk, the Director of the film, reminded the international society of Oleg Sentsov and other Ukrainian political prisoners in Russia. 'I want to turn attention to Oleg, my colleague, who has been starving in a Russian prison for 49 days now. We should remember him and another 60 political prisoners', he said.
