UN adopts resolution on withdrawal of Russian troops from Transnistria

The United Nations General Assembly adopted the resolution on withdrawal of Russian troops from the territory of the Republic of Moldova, as the

“Ukraine, as one of the co-sponsors, welcomes the approval of the resolution of the UN General Assembly on the complete and unconditional withdrawal of foreign troops from the territory of the Republic of Moldova,” Volodymyr Yelchenko, Ukraine’s Permanent Representative to UN, commented on the adoption of the resolution.
It was also noted that the resolution urges Russia to withdraw its forces from the Transnistrian region.

“We call on the Russia Federation to implement the approved resolution immediately, as well as to fulfill other international obligations within the framework of the Transnistrian settlement process,” the commentary says.

Ukrainian Mission to UN
On April 17, Viktor Kryzhanivsky,  the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine, stated that Ukraine would give the way for the withdrawal of the Russian troops from Transdniester.
Earlier, Petro Poroshenko, the President of Ukraine, claimed the readiness to facilitate the restoration of Moldova’s territorial integrity.

It should be noted that Ukraine supports a peaceful settlement of the Transnistrian conflict through talks based on the territorial integrity of Moldova.
The Transnistrian region declared its independence from Moldova in 1990. Its independence was recognized by Abkhazia and South Ossetia Republics, which are partially recognized, and by the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic, which is not recognized in the world.
