Ukraine elected to United Nations Economic and Social Council for three years

The UN General Assembly has elected Ukraine to the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) for the period of 2019-2021. This was reported by the press service of the Permanent Mission of Ukraine to the United Nations.
"Membership in ECOSOC will contribute to the implementation of the best international practices in the field of socio-economic reforms in Ukraine. We also plan to use the potential of the UN more actively to address urgent humanitarian problems," the Permanent Representative of Ukraine to the UN Volodymyr Yelchenko said after the election.
ECOSOC is one of the six key UN bodies responsible for coordinating the activities of United Nations and its specialized agencies in the economic and social spheres. It consists of 54 UN member states.

The last time Ukraine was elected to ECOSOC in 2010-2012.
As it was reported earlier, Ukraine filed the memorandum on the financing of the terrorism and racial discrimination to the UN International Court. The President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko emphasized that the filing of this memorandum is the important stage in the proving that Russia will be responsible for all criminal actions. The president emphasized that the whole world "is convicting Russia to recognize the unlawfulness of its actions and withdraw from the occupied territories of Donbas and Crimea."
