We never left it, - Putin on Russia's return to G8

Vladimir Putin, the President of Russia, estimated the prospects of returning to the G8. He noted that Russia did not leave the club and is waiting for the leaders of “seven” in Moscow. He said it at the press-conference in Qingdao after the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Summit, as Interfax reports.
“Regarding Russia’s return to the “seven”, “eight” – we never left it. At the time, the colleagues refused to come to Russia due to obvious reasons. Please, welcome, we will be glad to see everyone in Moscow,” Putin said.

As he said, under the purchasing power parity, according to IMF, the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) member states are “more than the states of the “seven”.
He added that there are internal issues in the “seven” group. “We realize there are some internal issues,” he said.

As we reported earlier, the G7 Summit in Canada is over. The joint communique of the G7 states says that the leaders of the member states support Ukraine. Donald Trump, the U.S. President, and Justin Trudeau, the PM of Canada, did not agree on the trade tariffs and Trump refused to approve the G7 final communique.
Most of the G7 leaders did not support Trump’s idea to return Russia to G7 format. Emmanuel Macron, the President of France, Justin Trudeau, the PM of Canada, and Theresa May, Britain’s PM, were against this idea. May stated that Russia should change its behaviour.
