Hromadske
The fire in Chornobyl exclusion zone has been localized, and there's no danger of the flames spreading on. Mykola Chechotkin, the head of the State Emergencies Service said that at a briefing in the evening of June 5.
'The area of the fire decreased from 12 to 6 hectares. There's no crown fire, separate hot spots are being extinguished. The current wind speed makes 3 meters per second, which eliminates the danger of the fire spreading on', the official said.
He added that the current radiation background in Kyiv is three times less than that estimated for the safe level. 'In Kyiv, the background currently equals 10 mcR/h (the allowable level is 30)', Chechotkin said earlier.
