Putin said he was ready to keep gas transit through Ukraine

Russian President Vladimir Putin said Russia was ready to keep transit of gas through Ukraine,
"How much the Nord Stream 2 will it be delivering is the question How much transit through Ukraine will be kept is also a question, as we are ready to preserve Ukrainian transit, too; how much our consumers will need now and in the near future," Putin said.
As it was reported earlier, Ukraine’s President Petro Poroshenko held a telephone conversation with the German Chancellor Angels Merkel
. The parties discussed the issues of security connected with the construction of Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline.
Russian gas transit through Ukraine will be continued after the establishment of the Nord Stream 2, if it is economically reasonable, as Vladimir Putin, Russia’s President, stated at the meeting with Angela Merkel, the Chancellor of Germany. According to him, Russia has always considered the Nord Stream 2 as an economic project and Moscow is ready to conduct talks with the Ukrainian side on this issue.

Richard Grenell, the U.S. Ambassador to Germany has criticized the Nord Stream 2 project and claimed that the US is very concerned about it. Grenell has noted that the US closely works with the Europeans who share these concerns. He called the current strategy on the gas pipeline very problematic and he also warned Germany and Europe on the Russian influence through this project.
European Commissioner for Competition Margrethe Vestager has also criticized the Nord Stream 2. According to her, this project does not meet the European interests.
The construction of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline has begun in Germany on May 3. Not all countries have given the permission for it; at the same time, Ukraine and Poland protest against the construction as it can strengthen Russia’s positions as the gas monopolist in Europe.
