Petro Poroshenko, Ukraine’s President, had a meeting with Kurt Volker, the U.S. Special Representative for Ukraine. The parties have discussed the deployment the UN peacekeeping mission on the territory beyond Ukraine’s control in Donbas, as the press office of Ukraine’s President reports.
“The interlocutors discussed the situation in the Donbas and noted the importance of deploying a UN peacekeeping mission in its occupied part,” the message says.
The parties have also stressed the necessity to immediately release Ukrainian hostages.

“Important attention was paid to cooperation in the field of security and defense between Ukraine and USA, strengthening of Ukraine's partnership with NATO and energy security issues taking into account the risks caused by the Nord Stream 2,” the representatives of the press office of Ukraine’s President. Earlier, at the meeting with Angel Merkel Petro, the Chancellor of Germany, Poroshenko stated that the deployment of the UN peacekeeping mission in Donbas is caused by the absence of the progress in the peace talks.

As we reported earlier, Poroshenko in his speech at the Munich Security Conference stated that Russia had a chance to show its readiness to the compromise and agree to the peacekeepers on the entire territory of the occupied Donbas. Earlier, Kurt Volker, the U.S. Ambassador to NATO, said that Russia’s draft resolution, which provides bringing the peacekeepers to Donbas only along the confrontation line is unacceptable for the USA and the UN, as it will not ensure security, but only exacerbate the conflict.
Earlier, Poland, Germany, Sweden, Portugal, Turkey and Finland stated that they were ready to bring the peacekeepers to Donbas.
