Poroshenko claims on necessity to deploy UN peacekeepers in Donbas

Presidential Administration press office

Petro Poroshenko, the President of Ukraine claimed the necessity to deploy the UN peacekeepers in Donbas as his press service reported.
'A lot of observers think that we have a 'cold war' in Ukraine. I want to disappoint them – it is not a 'cold war'. It is a 'hot' war. Every day there are dead civilians and Ukrainian soldiers. And in such situation we need the peacekeepers', Poroshenko claimed.

According to him, the election in Donbas is possible in the case of the complete implementation of the peacekeeping mission.
'It is impossible that peacekeeping mission can take place in parallel with the stay of the Russian troops', the president added.

He also noted that the deployment of the UN peacekeepers is the tool to put pressure on Russia to force it to withdraw the troops from the occupied territory.
Earlier Petro Poroshenko stated that he requested Antonio Guterres, UN Secretary-General, to set the special mission on the assessment of the cost, number and necessary terms to bring the peacekeepers.

As we reported earlier, Poroshenko in his speech at the Munich Security Conference stated that Russia had a chance to show its readiness to the compromise and agree to the peacekeepers on the entire territory of the occupied Donbas. Earlier, Kurt Volker, the U.S. Ambassador to NATO, said that Russia’s draft resolution, which provides bringing the peacekeepers to Donbas only along the confrontation line is unacceptable for the USA and the UN, as it will not ensure security, but only exacerbate the conflict.
Earlier, Poland, Germany, Sweden, Portugal, Turkey and Finland stated that they were ready to bring the peacekeepers to Donbas.
