Kyiv airport to expand terminal to service growing passenger flow

The Sikorsky Kyiv international airport seeks to expand its Terminal A in order to cope with the rising passenger flow, the chairman of the board of the enterprise Denys Kostrzhevsky has said, Interfax-Ukraine reports.
 
“Over the few upcoming years, we expect growth of passenger flow and the large-scale reconstruction by Master-Avia (the corporation managing the facility) is tied to this. In 2019, the airport’s arrival and departure areas will be doubled,”Kostrzhevsky said.
According to him, the international flight arrival area has undergone re-equipment and expansion, while Terminal A of the airport is scheduled to begin reconstruction in mid-May 2018.
“Terminal D was previously used solely for domestic flights. However, the passenger flow within Ukraine dropped considerably, so a part of the premises were re-equipped to service the passenger from international flights. As of right now, I am not able to provide you with an estimated cost of the reconstruction works, but I expect it to be in the neighborhood of $770,000 thousand,” the executive said.
 
He also pointed out that two galleries have already been built that connected Terminals A and D. The quantity of passport control booths has doubled, while the area for staying passengers was considerably expanded. The number of luggage delivery belts has also doubled.
“We intend adding a total area of over 9,000 square meters to Terminal A, which is going to double the number of check-in desks, to 40. Moreover, the quantity of passport control counters, security checkpoints is going to be doubled, meaning that the passenger flow may increase by as much as 2.5-fold. Currently, we service some 700 passengers hourly. We want to raise it to 1,500 per hour,” Kostrzhevsky said.
