Peter Szijjarto, Hungarian Foreign Minister, denies that Hungary could run its policy towards Ukraine “by Russia’s order”.
“With a discontent, we completely deny the slander campaign started by the Ukrainian politicians, according to which Russia has the same influence on Hungarian policy towards Ukraine,” Szijjarto stated, as Radio Svoboda reports.
He added that Hungarian Government is guided by the intentions to make Kyiv retract the laws which discriminate 150,000 Transcarpathian Hungarians.
Szijjarto noted that Hungary expects NATO to show solidarity. He believes, that the alliance is basically “gives easy time to Ukraine” for its geopolitical positions.

The Minister stressed that the Ukraine-NATO summits depend on Ukrainians, not on Hungarians.
As Hungary has blocked the organization of such meeting for the third time, Jens Stoltenberg, Secretary General of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, on April 26 stressed the importance of reaching a compromise between Ukraine and Hungary. He added that the consultation between NATO and Ukraine can be conducted at the ambassadors’ level, but NATO representatives also support the idea of conducting summits at the level of Foreign Ministers.

As it was reported earlier, Hungary vetoed the Ukraine-NATO commission meeting in Brussels at the level of Foreign Ministers, which was to be held this week. Earlier, Hungary blocked the meeting of the Ukraine-NATO commission which was to be held on February 14-15 and the Ukraine-NATO commission assembling in December of 2017.
Hungary stated that it would not support Ukraine’s convergence with Europe till the education law signed by the President on September 25, 2017 is not repealed.
