Ukraine observes one minute of silence in memory of Chornobyl disaster victims
Ukraine has observed one minute of silence in the tribute to the memory of the victims of the Chornobyl disaster.
Today is the 32nd anniversary of the accident at the nuclear power plant.

The explosion at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant took place on April 26, 1986, at 1:23:47 am. during the holding of the systems test at the 4th reactor which was completely destroyed. The building and the roof of the turbine hall partially struck. More than 30 seats of the fire occurred, most of them were put out in an hour, and the fire was liquidated up to 5 am. on April 26.
Only one person died during the explosion at the 4th reactor, one person died in the morning from the injuries. On April 27, 104 suffered persons were evacuated in 6th Moscow hospital. Later, 134 workers of the nuclear power plant, fireman and rescuers got the radiation sickness. 28 of them died during the next few months.

The radiation cloud caused by the accident covered the European part of the Soviet Union, the biggest part of Europe, the southern part of the US. About 60% of the radioactive material settled at the territory of Belarus.
200, 000 people were evacuated from the impact zone. The situated was compounded as the Soviet authority suppressed the accident and people did not know anything until May 1.

According to Chornobyl Union, 10% out of 600,000 of the liquidators died and 165, 000 became disabled.
