The National Union of Journalists of Ukraine spotted 21 cases of the beatings of the journalists since the beginning of 2018 as the press service of the union reported.
‘The report on the beatings of the journalists in the first quarter of 2018 was published. It shows the growth of the physical aggression toward the journalists in the performance of their professional duties during the first three months. Consequently, 21 cases of the physical aggression against the journalists were spotted in 2018, while in January-February-March 2017; there were 18 cases’, the message said.

It is noted that this number is not final and can grow. For example, the information of BBC on the beating of the journalist in Odesa on March 27 is checked.
‘Today, the low investigation and punishment level are spotted in Ukraine. It is dangerous as it includes a mechanism of the self-censorship. A journalist does not fight for the sharp and potentially dangerous issues, worrying over own safety’, the message said.

As we reported Ukraine is placed 101st of 180 countries in the annual media freedom ranking composed by Reporters Without Borders. Compared with the 2017 ranking, this country appears to have progressed, but just a little bit - one rank up (in 2017, Ukraine was placed 102nd). The media freedom degree was estimated at the level of 33.19 points.
