Poroshenko gets appeal of Ukrainian Orthodox Church on provision of tome on autocephaly to it

Petro Poroshenko, the President of Ukraine held the meeting with the primates of the Orthodox churches and accepted the appeal to Bartholomew, the Ecumenical Patriarch on the provision of the tome on the autocephaly for the Ukrainian church with the signs of all bishops of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church – Kyiv Patriarchate and Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church as the press service of the president reported.
'His Holiness, the Patriarch of Kyiv and All Rus'- Ukraine Filaret officially passed to Poroshenko the appeal to Bartholomew, the Ecumenical Patriarch on the provision of the tome on the autocephaly for the Ukrainian church signed all bishops of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church – Kyiv Patriarchate', the message said.

Patriarch Filaret noted that the appeal signed by all bishops and expressed the hope that the decision of Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew will become the beginning of the recognized Ukrainian local Orthodox Church.
'The Ukrainian state had stood the war and it showed that Ukraine exists and will exist. And if it exists, the church – the spiritual basis should be in Ukraine so that it can be a state. We fight for the spiritual basis for the Ukrainian state'.

The head of the state also held the meeting with Macarius, the Metropolitan of Kyiv, the Primate of the Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church and officially accepted the appeal to Bartholomew, the Ecumenical Patriarch on the provision of the tome on the autocephaly for the Ukrainian church signed all bishops of the Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church.

Poroshenko thanked the primates for the gathered signs and prepared appeals to the Ecumenical Patriarch.
Also, he held the meeting with Metropolitan Onufriy, the Head of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church – Moscow Patriarchate.

Poroshenko told the Metropolitan about his visit to Istanbul where he held the meetings with the Ecumenical Patriarch and Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate members that were devoted to the perspectives of the provision of the tome on the autocephaly for the Ukrainian church.
'Many hours discussion of Ukraine's fate, the fate of the Ukrainian church took place. His Holiness very actively entrusted the care about all citizens of Ukraine, support to our country in the response to the aggression in such difficult time when Ukraine loses its best sons and daughters', Poroshenko reported.

The Ukrainian president and Onufriy exchanged the opinions on the activation of the interfaith dialogue in Ukraine.
As we reported on April 17, Petro Poroshenko signed an appeal to Bartholomew, the Archbishop of Constantinople and Ecumenical Patriarch with a plea to provide tome towards the autocephaly of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church and urges the Verkhovna Rada to support it.

Since 90-s there are a few jurisdictions in Ukraine that call themselves Orthodox local and autocephaly Churches.
The Ukrainian Orthodox Church – Moscow Patriarchate and  Metropolis of Bessarabia of the Romanian Orthodox Church have the canonical status. Ukrainian Orthodox Church – Kyiv Patriarchate is canonically not recognized.
Also, there is unrecognized Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church.
