Moscow Court rules to urgently block Telegram in Russia

The court in Moscow ruled to satisfy the lawsuit of Federal Service for Supervision of Communications, Information Technology and Mass Media or Roskomnadzor and block Telegram in the territory of Russia as the mass media reported citing the decision of Judge Yulia Smolina.
The judge allowed to begin the blocking urgently until the decision comes into force.

Telegram representatives were absent at the court session as Pavel Durov, the founder of the messenger prohibited the lawyers to participate in ‘the candid farce’. However, the advocated filed the appeal with the request to postpone the session but it was rejected.
The consideration of the lawsuit took 20 minutes.

According to NTV, Telegram can restore the work in Russia if it provides the encryption keys to the FSB.
Telegram advocates claimed about the plans to appeal the decision of the court on the blocking in due course after they familiarize with the decision. Advocate Ramil Akhmetgaliev claimed this to Vedomosti. ‘The judge red out a small amount of the text’, he noted.

He specified that the Telegram lawyers will firstly appeal ‘the most blatant procedural irregularities’.
On April 6, Roskomnadzor filed the lawsuit on the blocking of Telegram in Russia. Earlier, the ultimatum put forward by Roskomnadzor to Telegram ended. Roskomnadzor threatened with the trial if Telegram would not pass the encryption keys to the FSB.
