The Parliament of Ukraine has approved decree #8111 on addressing the international community regarding the infeasibility of the construction of the Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline and Russia’s monopoly on the world gas supply markets, broadcast live on air of the official parliamentary TV channel, Rada, 112.ua reports.

According to the statement, the obvious result of the implementation of the project will be the validation of Russia’s absolute monopoly on the European gas supply market. In such case, Gazprom will gain the control of the volume and price setting across the entire gas supply market of continental Europe, as well as the physical opportunity to deny gas supply to certain countries of Central Europe.
The Verkhovna Rada requests the international community to do everything in their powers to irreversibly oppose the construction of the Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline, not to participate in the preparation, financing or lobbying on behalf of this project.

The Ukrainian parliament calls on its partners to extend the application of all personal and sectoral sanctions, which were introduced as the result of Russia’s military aggression against Ukraine, to Gazprom. Also, Ukrainian lawmakers encourage international partners to introduce measures for curbing the monopolistic influence of Russian enterprises on the European energy markets.
The decree shall become effective on the day of its adoption.
On 27 March, Nord Stream-2 AG received a permit to build and exploit a gas pipeline in the German special economic zone.

Earlier, it was reported that the Nord Stream-2 project, worth almost $11 billion, is expected to begin in April 2018. The 1200-km long gas pipeline is expected to be constructed through the Baltic Sea, and thus connect Russia and Germany, while passing by Ukraine, Poland, and the Baltic nations. The pipeline capacity is expected at twice the capacity of the first Nord Stream, while the construction is expected to be completed by the end of 2019.
