“Last year, Austria invested a total of $1,344 million in the Ukrainian economy, which accounts for a 3.4% share of the total volume of inward foreign direct investment attracted by the nation”, - the press service of the Cabinet of Ministers said after the meeting between the Prime Minister of Ukraine Volosymyr Groysman and the President of the Austrian Republic Alexander van der Bellen, Interfax-Ukraine reports.

During the meeting, Volodymyr Groysman emphasized that European integration is Ukraine’s irreversible foreign policy choice, which is why Kyiv hopes for further dialogue between the two states on a number of issues, keeping in mind Austria’s presidency of the European Union in the second half of the current year.

The parties also doubled down on the issue of the military conflict in Donbas. “The annexation of Crimea and the occupation of the eastern regions of Ukraine are both unlawful. This is a drastic violation of international law. Russia seems to be under the impression that its actions will remain without punishment. However, we need to prevent the existence of such an impression”, - the press service of the Cabinet of Ministers wrote citing the Austrian President.

Alexander van der Bellen has spoken of keen interest among Austrian investors towards the Ukrainian economy and stressed the importance of anti-corruption measures.
Earlier, the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko claimed that the trade turnover between the two nations rose by 18.5% in 2017 and reached a total of $1.2 billion in absolute terms. Ukraine increased its exports to Austria by 48% year-over-year.
