Finland to support reforms in Ukraine

Finland will continue supporting reforms in Ukraine. Timo Soini, Finnish Foreign Minister said it after the negotiations with his Ukrainian colleague Pavlo Klimkin. They had a meeting today, on March 5 in Kyiv, Foreign Ministry press center reports.
Ukraine signed an Agreement on implementation of the project “Finnish support for Ukrainian school reform”. Klimkin called it a good example of Finish support. They also discussed cooperation in the energy saving sphere. Soini noted that Finish Government intends to establish a Fund to provide assistance for Ukraine. Resources from the Fund will be allocated for implementation of energy saving projects.

Besides, the increase in turnover signifies improvement of Ukraine’s cooperation with Finland – trade increased by 17% in 2017.
Timo Soini stressed, that Finland will continue supporting sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine. He said that Helsinki is ready to provide forces for UN peacekeeping mission in Donbas. Soini noted that the Kremlin has keys to solve Donbas conflict, which is why there is no reason to cancel anti-Russian sanctions.

Speaking of North Stream 2, Soini emphasized that Gazprom has to fulfill all of the international obligations, including the decision of the Stockholm Arbitration. As to Ukraine, Finland recognizes it as a reliable gas supplier.
