Naftogaz of Ukraine company signed a contract with PGNiG (Poland) for the purchase in March of more than 60 million cubic meters of gas after the refusal of PJSC "Gazprom" to deliver it, the press service of the Polish company reported.

Deliveries began on Friday, March 2, through the "Hermanowice" pipe node, which connects the Polish and Ukrainian gas transmission systems.

The signed contract will be valid until the end of March 2018. Up to this time more than 60 million cubic meters of gas should be supplied to Ukraine. At the same time, PGNiG board chairman Pyotr Voinyak expressed the company's readiness to increase the volume of deliveries or extend the contract's validity period in case of the Ukrainian side's appeal.

In 2017, PGNiG supplied Ukraine with more than 1 billion cubic meters of gas.

It should be noted that after the decision of the Stockholm Arbitration, Gazprom said on the termination of contracts for the supply and transit of gas from the Naftogaz of Ukraine.

On February 28, the Stockholm Arbitration Court satisfied Naftogaz's claims on the suit against Gazprom. Naftogaz achieved compensation in the amount of $ 4.63 billion for Gazprom's failure to deliver agreed volumes of gas for transit. Also, Gazprom must pay 2.56 billion dollars in favor of Naftogaz. For the debt will be accrued interest - 526 thousand dollars per day starting from March 1.

However, Gazprom does not agree with the decision of the Stockholm Arbitration to pay compensation to Naftogaz.

On March 1 the "Gazprom" reported that "Naftogaz of Ukraine" has made an advance payment for the resumption of Russian gas supplies since March. At the same time, Gazprom returned the money, stating that this was due to the lack of an agreed supplementary agreement to the current contract. In "Naftogaz" they called Gazprom's refusal to supply gas a violation of the agreement and failure to comply with the arbitration award.

And on March 2 Naftogaz urged Ukrainians to lower the temperature in the premises by 1-2 degrees to save gas consumption.

Later it became known that the Ministry of Energy transferred generation companies from gas to fuel oil, suspended the work of kindergartens, schools and universities, and recommended that the plan of action of production facilities should be revised to save gas resources.
