Yanukovych threatens detectives and prosecutors investigating him with “legal consequences”

The fugitive ex-President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych has threatened the detectives and prosecutors engaged in criminal proceedings and lawsuits against him with “legal consequences”. Yanukovych said this during his press conference in Moscow on Friday morning, broadcast live by 112-Ukraine.

“For over a year now I have been unable to participate in the litigation that is used to prosecute me. The Ukrainian government constantly violates my rights, does not allow me to participate in hearings, violates my right for legal protection, do not want to hear defendant’s witnesses, infringe upon my attorneys’ rights to discharge their duties. I would like to warn those detectives and prosecutors who are involved in this political prosecution that all of your unlawful actions will be followed by legal consequences”, - Yanukovych claimed.

Viktor Yanukovych is a suspect within a criminal case on state treason, which is currently underway in Kyiv. On 21 February, the incumbent President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko was questioned as a witness for prosecution in Obolonsky court in Kyiv, where the case on state treason by Viktor Yanukovych is being held. Also, Yanukovych is the lead suspect in a number of other criminal cases, particularly, pertaining to funds embezzlement and abuse of power.
