Georgia refuses from Russian natural gas
Georgia isn’t intending to buy natural gas from Russia, as all the country’s needs are supplied by Azerbaijan, Georgia’s Deputy Minister of Economy Georgiy Chikovani said, according to Georgia Online.
This was his response to the opposition’s allegations that Georgia isn’t buying the Russian gas because it can’t afford it. Until recently, Georgia received payments for the transit of Russian gas in the form of gas, but in 2016, the country signed a new agreement with Gazprom, according to which, they transferred to being paid in the money equivalent.

As a result, the Georgian side could buy less gas for the money they’ve made on this deal that it had been given. This is why the opposition finds this decision unfavourable for Georgia.
The official refuted this allegation. “It can’t be said that we don’t have enough money for buying Russian gas. In any case, the money remuneration is big enough,” Chikovani said and emphasized and said that “Georgia simply doesn’t need Russian gas, as the Azerbaijani gas is sufficient”.
