Ukraine summons Syrian diplomat to protest against recognition of Crimea’s occupation
Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry summoned the Charge d’Affaires of Syria, Mohammad Sabah al Hadj Bakri, in order to protest against the recent statement made by the Syrian official. The incident took palce October 20, when Syria’s parliamentary speaker called the occupied Crimea ‘Russian territory’. Maryana Betsa, the ministry’s spokeswoman, said this in Kyiv on Monday.
The parties had a conversation, during which the Ukrainian ministry clearly pointed out that ‘such irritating statement hurts the friendly relations between the countries’. ‘We clearly stated that Crimea was, is and will be the part of Ukraine. That is also confirmed by the UN General Assembly’s resolution passed in March 2014 – the one about Ukraine’s territorial integrity,’ Betsa said.
