Clinton vs Trump: Round 2

Clinton vs Trump: Round 2Sunday encounter between Donald Trump and Hilary Clinton was a town hall-style debate where the candidates were not standing behind a podium but sitting on stools. The two were given questions from undecided voters.

The debate was co-hosted by CNN’s Anderson Cooper and ABC News’ Martha Raddatz.

Here are the most interesting highlights from the 90 minutes of candidates bickering.

Clinton and Trump enter the gladiator pit without a handshake. But just a few minutes before, with all eyes on them, former president Bill Clinton shook hands with Melania Trump moments before their spouses took the stage.

As the debate was overshadowed for Trump with latest tape leak, Anderson Cooper asks Trump about the incident. "This was locker-room talk... I am certainly not proud of it," Trump answered.

"I’ve said things that I was embarrassed by it. I have tremendous respect for women and women have tremendous respect for me,” Trump added.

In her own comment to the situation, Clinton said: “I think it's clear to anyone who heard it that it represents exactly who he is.”

"We’ve seen him rate women on their appearance, ranking them from one to 10… it’s not only women, it’s not only this video that raises questions about his fitness to be our president. This is who Donald Trump is," she added.

Trump was trying to turn the situation by accusing Bill Clinton of doing much worse than talking about sexual assault.

Another moment of clash was when Trump said he would instruct his attorney general to get a special prosecutor to look into email situation.

Clinton responded: "It's just awfully good that someone with the temperament of Donald Trump is not in charge of the law in our country."

"Because you'd be in jail," Trump concluded.

When asked about people that could be “a threat to the nation”, Trump answered: “Muslims have to report it when they see hate going on. Muslims have to report the problems when they see them. If they don't do that it's a very difficult situation for our country. She (Clinton) won't even use the word (radical Islamic terrorism).”

Clinton later accuses Putin's regime of "trying to influence the outcome of the election". She says the Russians are trying to help Trump to win the election.

Trump responded saying he didn't know Putin and he hadn't been working with the Russia government in his campaign.

He says it would be good if the US could co-operate with Russia to defeat the so-called Islamic State.

Trump also said his Democratic rival "has tremendous hate in her heart" while criticising her for referring to his supporters as "deplorables".

Clinton said she apologised for the comment, adding: "My argument is not with his supporters, it's with him, about the hateful and divisive campaign he has run."

Clinton vs Trump: Round 2

It was a really interesting 90 minutes of debate, at the end of which candidates finally shaked each others hands. The debate shows how Trump is slowly losing his position, but it doesn’t mean Clinton has already reached a calm ground.

The third and the last debate are scheduled on October 19.
