Frexit: Le Pen to hold referendum on EU if elected
Marine Le Pen, the leader of France’s National Front party, vowed on Saturday France will hold a referendum on whether to stay in EU or to leave it if she wins the 2017 presidential election.
During her speech in Brachay, the village in northeastern France, Le Pen said she is sole credible defender of law and order and national unity. She posted the referendum as the best way to combat terrorism."This referendum on France belonging to the European Union, I will do it. Yes it is possible to change things. Look at the Brits, they chose their destiny, they chose independence ... We can again be a free, proud and independent people,"
Among all major French political parties, the National Front was the only one to support Brexit so it could do the same at home.
Le Pen's party gets it popularity on anti-Europe and anti-immigration statements. So she could do well on May elections, but she will probably lose the second round to a mainstream candidate, as a majority of voters do not want her as president.
